Rest, Reflect, Plan: Shaping FY2027 and the Future of Digital Health at Kisizi Hospital

Streamline Health Tech team at Kisizi Hospital

In a fast-moving industry like health tech, it is easy to get caught up in the daily grind of deployments, updates, and boardroom meetings. But at Streamline, we believe that teams building for the last mile need to occasionally stand in it.

Last week, the entire Streamline team stepped away from our day-to-day operations for our FY2027 kickoff. We didn’t book a hotel conference room with “laptops-open” sessions. Instead, we traveled to Kisizi Hospital in Rukungiri, hosted by our co-founder and Clinical Lead, Dr. Ian Spillman, who serves as Kisizi’s Medical Superintendent.

For four days, our team lived by a simple framework: Rest, Reflect, and Plan (RRP).

Returning to Our Roots: Where Streamline Was Born

Resting deliberately meant hiking to the stunning Kisizi Falls, canoeing, bird watching along Uganda’s scenic trails, and truly disconnecting before the pressure of a new fiscal year sets in.

But reflecting meant looking closely at the community around us—a community where Streamline’s very first deployment went live back in 2014. Kisizi is not just a backdrop; it is a living proof of concept for what long-term, community-owned healthcare can look like. Today, the hospital runs East Africa’s largest Community Health Insurance Scheme, supporting 45,000+ insurance groups as far as 50km out.

By running our retreat in the exact building where deployment number one happened, our team was constantly reminded of why this work matters. It is one thing to look at data points on a screen; it is entirely another to see those data points translated into real human impact at a facility built on integrated care.

The Missing Link in African Healthcare: Integrated Systems

As an industry expert in digital health, we know that the biggest challenges in African healthcare are not always a lack of access or clinical knowledge. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 60% of preventable deaths in LMICs happen where care exists but systems fail. Clinical guidelines are followed less than 45% of the time, not because clinicians don’t care, but because fragmented paper-based systems make it impossible to track patient journeys effectively.

A complete, integrated Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) changes this narrative. Over the last decade, Streamline has transformed from a single deployment at Kisizi to serving over 200 health facilities across East Africa. By integrating everything from triage and laboratory investigations to pharmacy dispensing, we ensure that clinicians have a complete picture at the point of care.

Looking Ahead: Our FY2027 Roadmap

Reflecting on a year of incredible growth—and planning the next one—hits differently when you have the receipts right in front of you.

As we move into FY2027, our focus remains on deepening our impact across three core pillars:

  1. Closing the Healthcare Financing Gap: Out-of-pocket health expenditure in Uganda remains alarmingly high at 42%. We are continuing to scale our community insurance platform, Streamline Ubuntu, empowering underserved populations through a decentralized digital health ecosystem.
  2. Hospital Finance Automation: Manual payment tracking is failing hospitals today, leading to massive revenue leakage. In FY2027, we are pushing the boundaries of cashless hospital payments with StreamlinePAY, eliminating cashier queues and ensuring near-perfect revenue tracking.
  3. Data-Driven Public Health: Using AI-powered predictive analytics via Streamline SNAP, we are giving hospital administrators, researchers, and governments the exact diagnostic and predictive tools they need to anticipate patient influxes and track disease trends in real time.

Moving Forward with Clarity

We came back from Kisizi with rested minds, a clear-eyed read on what worked in FY2026, and a robust FY2027 plan shaped by the very people we build for.

Here’s to a team that rests deliberately, reflects honestly, and plans with a unified vision. We are ready to revolutionize patient care in East Africa.

Is your health facility ready to transition from paper trails to a unified, digital-first system?
