Berakhah Medical Centre is a private for-profit facility in Kimanya, Kasengejje Road, Wakiso District established by Mukisa Foundation in partnership with Special Children’s Trust (SCT). The Facility Partners with some insurance Companies i.e.CASE MEDICAL. It prides itself on its experienced medical staff dedicated to providing affordable and quality healthcare services around the community.

Top Challenges

Below were the top 3 challenges Berakhah Medical Centre faced before taking on Stre@mline EMR

  • Finance Management. Having a centralized System to manage finances in the facility especially generating company core financial reports like Balance sheets, profit or Loss statements, and expenditures while supporting clinical workflow was a challenge.
  • Stock Management. Tracking stock movement around the facility was a challenge, especially the Outreach stock where balances had to be manually checked against their requisitions, and pharmacy dispensation reports around the facility.  expiries and stockouts at Berakhah Medical Centre were very hard to track.
  • Patient Management follow-ups, where some patients lose their medical forms and tracing back, and managing reviews would be quite challenging.
  • Reports Generation especially the HMIS Reports, was a challenge since it would take about a week to generate those reports and have them submitted to the district in time

Actions Taken.

  • Stre@mline EMR was installed by the Stre@mline Team at Berakhah Medical Centre premises on 26th June 2024 and went live on 30th June 2024.
  • A total of 9 staff members were trained on how to use the Stre@mline EMR in 6 days. These included the Facility in charge, medical doctor, clinician, OPD nurses (Pharmacists, Stores personnel),  IPD Nurses (Maternity, Antenatal, General Ward) and receptionists.
  • Berakhah Medical Centre was able to set up its price lists (Drugs, Sundries, procedures, Laboratory Tests, Services) which were uploaded and the stock reconciliations for the pharmacy, Other Departments (Wards) and stores were performed.
  • All diagnoses were set up with their right HMIS outpatient numbers and the respective HMIS categories to ease the reports generation of the different HMIS reports.
  • All the Income and Expenditure charts of Accounts were created by the Berakhah Medical Centre Team to allow a seamless tracking of different transactions and be able to generate financial reports such as profit or loss statements, and balance sheets among others.

Results

  • As of July 03, 2024, Berakhah Medical Centre has registered over 27 Patients on Stre@mline EMR with over 35 episodes, carried out 2 Procedures, Over 30 Prescriptions, Over 18 Laboratory requests processed, and 14 diagnoses captured.
  • According to Miss Fortunate Kansiime, a pharmacist at Berakhah Medical Facility, Stre@mline has simplified her work in managing stockouts, and expiries, as she can now be able to see which batches are expiring and running out of stock soon and take necessary action, she says that procurement of inventory has also been simplified in a way that she can now generate Local Purchase Orders (LPO) in Stre@mline without having to write down on paper where she would spend hours writing down the list of the inventory to purchase

  • Miss Apio Rebecca, the midwife at Berakhah Medical Centre, says Stre@mline has simplified follow-up of the antenatal patients and record keeping since now she can enter all the information into the Stre@mline and is able to retrieve all the patient records in time even when the patient forgets their cards behind on review.
  • According to Mr Abiira Nathan, Medical doctor at Berakhah Medical Centre, Stre@mline has been a breath of fresh air since most of the things are automated and the administration can take a minute or two to access and query data in real-time. He says working along with the pharmacy department has been harmonised as he can be able to know which drugs are out of stock, running out of stock or expired from the comfort of the consultation room.

  • Mrs Rebecca Babirye, The Facility in-charge at Berakhah Medical Centre, Stre@mline has solved most of the challenges they have had with the previous EMR (Electronic Medical Records) system, generating HMIS and other administrative reports, tracking of the patient's history has been resolved with Stre@mline, reducing on the debtors using the progressive treatment feature in Stre@mline 
  • Miss Mary Kuliva, Administration Officer/ Finance, "Stre@mline has reduced the workload in terms of managing expenses, generating Budgets and other financial operations allowing her to attend to other administrative tasks and focus on patient care."
